Lauv's Triumphant Return to Singapore: A Night of Music, Emotion, and Unity

When Lauv announced The Between Albums Tour earlier this year, fans across Asia couldn’t contain their excitement. Following the heartbreak of the canceled how i’m feeling world tour in 2020 due to the pandemic, this tour promised to be an unforgettable musical journey through his evolving discography, now enriched with his 2022 release of All 4 Nothing.

Returning to Singapore, in particular, held profound significance for the singer-songwriter. Nearly six years had passed since Lauv graced the very same venue, the Singapore Indoor Stadium, as an opening act for Ed Sheeran during his Divide World Tour. This time, the spotlight was entirely on him, and he brought along the exceptionally talented Alexander 23 to join him on the road. The duo turned out to be a real treat for fans who had fallen in love with both artists’ music.

Alexander 23’s opening set, featuring hits like “Cry Over Boys,” Dirty AF1s,” and “IDK You Yet,” was undeniably captivating. Not only did it warm up the audience, but it also set the perfect tone for the main event: Lauv. What’s more, Alexander 23 surprised everyone by announcing during his set that he was planning a return trip to Singapore for his own show, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his return.

As Lauv took the stage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, electric energy filled the air. He sported the bedazzled helmet from his latest single’s music video, “Love U Like That”. However, Lauv had an unexpected treat in store for his fans as he began to sing “i’m so tired…,” his collaboration with Troye Sivan, before abruptly pausing to reveal that it was a test for his devoted audience — a test they undoubtedly passed with flying colors. From that moment, the stage was set for a breathtaking journey through Lauv’s musical catalog, featuring beloved favorites such as “Chasing Fire,” “Mean It,” “Modern Loneliness,” and even the enchanting “Steal the Show” from Disney/Pixar’s Elemental.

A defining aspect of this concert was the awe-inspiring visuals. Lauv and his team went above and beyond to ensure that the visual elements of the show matched the musical brilliance. From stunning light displays to mesmerizing video projections, the visuals added an extra layer of depth and emotion to each song. It was as if the music came to life in a vibrant, visual symphony that captivated the audience’s essence.

However, what truly sets a Lauv concert apart is his unwavering dedication to his fans. He didn’t restrict himself to the stage but instead traversed the entire Indoor Stadium, interacting with fans in every corner. A special mention has to be given to Lauv’s photographer YK, who expertly captured unforgettable moments, including a seamless TikTok transition from backstage to Lauv performing “Tattoos Together” on stage. The fan service was at an all-time high, with Lauv taking the time to forge personal connections, exchange handshakes, and even accept a few friendship bracelets, which joined the ever-growing collection adorning his wrist. This heartfelt gesture left the audience feeling acknowledged the cherished, transforming the concert into an intimate affair despite the large venue.

Throughout the evening, Lauv’s emotions were palpable, particularly when he performed “Hey Ari,” a song of immense personal significance from his 2022 album All 4 Nothing.

You have those moments where you’re like, ‘I need to check out my life right now because I’m not happy, and no more excuses.’ Everybody should be happy. That song very much felt like a sobering check-in with me.

As Lauv gazed out into the crowd, he was met with a sea of fans singing every word of his songs back to him. The passion and dedication of his fanbase were on full display, moving him deeply. It was a moment of profound connection and unity, transcending the music and leaving both Lauv and his fans in a state of profound awe.

Given that this tour spanned his expansive catalog, Lauv ensured a setlist that seamlessly merged nostalgia with freshness and excitement. From his early hits like “I Like Me Better” to newer tracks like “Kids Are Born Stars” and “Summer Nights” fans were treated to a diverse and electrifying musical journey. Lauv’s innate ability to blend genres and emotions seamlessly ensured that there was something for everyone in the audience.

As the final notes of the night echoed away, one undeniable truth emerged: Lauv’s long-awaited return to Singapore was more than worth the four-year wait. The Between Albums Tour was more than a mere music spectacle; it evolved into an emotionally charged reunion between an artist and his devoted fan base. Lauv’s performance went beyond delivering an unforgettable night of music; it etched indelible memories into the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be present at the sold-out show.
