Indie-pop singer-songwriter Cloe Wilder from Clearwater, Florida possesses a voice way beyond her years. Wilder’s artistic talents were apparent from an early age when she started taking piano lessons, which consequently helped her to discover her passions for singing, surprising her family and anyone around her. In December 2018, Wilder started her YouTube channel where she covered songs by artists such as Halsey, Alessia Cara, Billie Eilish, Sasha Sloan, and more from whom she draws inspiration.

2020 was a rather eventful year for Wilder, to say the least, as she kicked it off with the release of "Crying When I Shouldn't". The song, mixed and mastered by Grammy Award winners Rob Kinelski and John Greenham (Billie Eilish) and co-written and produced by Eric Scullin, has since amassed over 300,000 streams on Spotify.

Following the success of “Crying When I Shouldn’t”, Wilder released singles "It's True" and "Call Me If You Need Me". Today her seven-track debut EP Teenage Lullabies, which she crafted with producer Sam Nicolosi, was released.

Her sound, which she describes as ethereal with a dash of bedroom indie and fake romance is reminiscent of some of her favorite artists like Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey. The latter she cites as having made a major contribution to her personality and music-making, having listened to her ever since she was in the first grade.

The EP, with a plethora of elements such as light, airy guitar riffs, punchy bass lines and Wilder’s soulful voice, is an insight into the romanticisation of Wilder’s teenage years where friends, crushes, and more meld together to create a soundtrack to today’s youth.

Prior to the EP, I was writing and releasing random singles. This project makes sense. I feel like I’ve finally done something right. I consider this my proper introduction.

In addition to the EP, a video for upbeat lead single "I Wanna Be Alone With You," featuring Tripp Bowers, has also been released concurrently. After the calming entrance into the world of Teenage Lullabies with “It’s True,” the pace picks up on this track with a focus on the drums and bass line.

Filmed at the infamous Pink Motel in California, the setting and pop of colors give the video a retro 80’s vibe as we see Wilder and a group of friends enjoying their time together while she sings about her feelings for Bowers’ character. The edgy and rebellious nature of the song comes across through the lyrics as Wilder sings, “Wanna cross the fine line, if looks could kill then I’d die.”

Overall, Teenage Lullabies was an excellent listen, and a testament to Wilder’s stellar potential as a singer-songwriter. At just 14-years-old, the stars are surely aligned for a bright future ahead of her in her musical journey! Stay tuned for an upcoming episode of our podcast where Wilder discusses the EP with us!
