One of my personal favorites, newly minted 21-year-old alt-pop artist Carlie Hanson has unleashed a new song “Gucci Knife,” featuring up and coming alternative singer MASN.

Carlie released her debut EP JUNK in 2019 and has since toured with artists Lauv, Troye Sivan and Yungblud, and signed a deal with Warner Records, all before the age of 20.

“Gucci Knife” is Carlie's first song since the release of her sophomore EP DestroyDestroyDestroyDestroy in October 2020. The track is an infectious pop song about heartbreak that stays true to the essence of who Carlie is as an artist. It is accompanied by a music video directed by alternative/hip-hop stalwart, Nicholas Jandora (24kGoldn, Lil Skies). The song is set to be the first track off Carlie's forthcoming debut full-length album.

Gucci Knife captures the heavy heartbreak of being so unexpectedly let down by a person after they change their mind, what feels like, overnight.

In the 8 months since its release DestroyDestroyDestroyDestroy has clocked in over 53 million streams. The EP received praise from the press, with American Songwriter calling it a “a marker of further mental and creative liberation for Hanson… [with] songs driven by visceral emotions, devastating realities, and frustrated perceptions. Carlie was also featured in Billboard Magazine's “Best of 21 Under 21 List.” Having already achieved so much at 21, it will be interesting to see how Carlie's musical journey shapes up from here!
