Joshua Speers delivers us his next installment off his upcoming EP (Midnight Horses) in a compelling single titled, “Just Kids.” The single released via Warner Records was crafted by a stellar team consisting of Crafted alongside award-winning songwriters/producers Tommy English [Kacey Musgraves], Dan Wilson [Leon Bridges] and Lars Stalfors [Cold War Kids].

‘Just Kids’ has two parallel storylines. I was home with my grandmother and she said ‘I look in the mirror and see this old lady but I have the same brain as when I was 17’ and something about the way she said it totally blew my mind. At the same time, my brother was about to turn 17 and I kept thinking about all the crazy and terrifying things he’s been exposed to. How childhood is forced out of some people and at the same time how parts of adolescence stay with you forever.

Not only does the record have a youthful vibrancy that matches the lyrics, but the anthemic chorus featuring a heart-pounding drum section and lively guitar accompaniment to Joshua’s introspective vocals capture the adolescence that we reminiscence or move forward with.

A renaissance man in the most classic definition of the term, Delaware-raised Joshua Speers has spent his time during the lockdown in Los Angeles making pottery—he moved a wheel into his house just as quarantine started –fly fishing, riding his motorcycle, and co-hosting an Instagram Live book club for fans and followers. A hopeless romantic, he studied poetry and pottery at Skidmore College, traversing the Northeast with a small library on his dashboard while working an assortment of odd jobs before moving to LA to pursue music full-time. He made his major-label debut with Human Now (2020), which V Magazine called “a soul-searching project,” followed by the most recent EP Summerland, built on a guitar-heavy, 80s-inspired sound that Speers describes as the lovechild of Bruce Springsteen and Carly Rae Jepsen.
