Malia Civetz Drops EP Full of Powerful Bangers Titled Heels In Hand

Soulful pop extraordinaire, Malia Civetz releases her latest project via Warner Records with Heels in Hand.

The carefully crafted collection of six honest, empowering, effervescent tracks take the listener on a journey without missing a drip or ooze of soul. A favorite is “Partied Out” which is reminiscent of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance (With Somebody).” The vibrant and bold visual (which has cameos from Jackie Cox, Lagana Estranja, Yuhua Hamasaki, and Reah Litre) matches the record’s high energy.

Another great highlight is Malia’s ability to rewrite the narrative on a familiar idea. With the saucy “Sugar Daddy,” she turns the preconceived notion of the titular phrase and masterfully turns it into a spicy line: “I don’t need no sugar daddy/ Just want your sugar, daddy.” The track closes the EP perfectly by whetting the listener’s appetite but leaves them wanting more.

Last week, Malia gave a rousing virtual performance of “Broke Boy” at the VFLIES VLAB show in support of curators who own their culture. On Tuesday, Civetz launched a virtual tour on TikTok promoting Heels in Hand. During the eight-date run, which takes place every Tuesday and Friday through May 14, Civetz will premiere new music from the EP, lead Q&A sessions, and take requests. "Every show's gonna be a little different," Civetz wrote on Instagram, "so break in your dancing shoes STAT."

Praised for her sex-positive, self-affirming vision of pop by a slew of outlets including E!, American Songwriter, Flaunt, Earmilk, and Paper, Civetz is signed to Friends With Pens, run by her longtime collaborators and “songwriting dads” Ross Golan (Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande) and J Kash (Maroon 5, Charlie Puth). Civetz has also appeared on the “Taylor Swift's Favorite Songs” playlist and On Air with Ryan Seacrest, and she was the opening act for JoJo's 2018 Leaks, Covers & Mixtapes Tour. In 2020, Civetz released her debut EP, The Flip, which features the triumphant “Broke Boy,” the slinky Yung Baby Tate collaboration “Love Thing,” and the sleek Alesso co-write “Disrespectful.” Listen to The Flip HERE. On "Partied Out" and the Heels in Hand EP, Civetz continues to write her own story in her own inimitable way.
