This week is an extra special episode! I’m joined by the other half of the Pop Nerd Lounge Team, Vee Koh! It was so lovely to finally have her sit in the co-host chair, and for her podcast debut she rocked it!
Sitting down on the Pop Nerd Lounge couch is the notable drummer and percussionist Mike Sleath. His hard work and talents led him to drum for artists like John Mayer, Camilla Cabello, Khalid, and Conor Maynard. He’s currently serving as the touring drummer and percussionist for Shawn Mendes on the Shawn Mendes World Tour.
For a musician with a hefty resume, I really was taken aback by how grounded and kind Sleath was. He took time out of his busy tour schedule to talk to us, and it felt like we were grabbing coffee with an old friend. It was so interesting to learn about his tale of perseverance with Humber college. He used their rejections as a drive to work hard and find his path into the music industry. We learn how he keeps up with self-care to entertain an arena crowd each night, and he gives his tips on how aspiring drummers can enhance their career. Having played on stages like “The Ellen Show,” The MTV Video Music Awards, and The Grammys, there’s truly nothing holding him back. Listen here!
