penelope's "Drive" Brings On Relatable Heartbreak Vibes

While the world preps for holiday festivities, and it’s prime cuffing season, penelope lets others know that they’re not alone when it comes to heartbreak. Folk-pop, singer-songwriter penelope released her latest single “Drive.” The song talks about her “running from the love (she) hope(s) to find.” When we need to get away and clear our minds, most find catharsis in a drive. The song’s subtle electric guitar and driving (pun intended) drums gives me nostalgic “Why Can’t I” Liz Phair vibes.

“Drive” is the latest from the singer since the release of her track “coming home,” which premiered via Wonderland. Upon release, “coming home” was immediately added to Apple Music’s New In Pop playlist.

After an injury derailed her D1 dreams at Stanford, she turned to writing a lot of sad songs that her then dormmates, encouraged her to release. After a session at MDDN Studios and positive feedback from Joel Madden [Good Charlotte] boosted her confidence, she set her sights on music full time. Her 2018 debut single “Catch Me When I Fall” caught fire right out of the gate, clocking over 456K Spotify streams. On its heels, 2019’s “Stranger”—mastered by the legendary Mike Dean [Kanye West, Travis Scott]—graced Spotify’s coveted “New Music Friday” upon release. Meanwhile, Amazon touted “u don’t know me” on its “Brand New Music” playlist. By the time she shared “slippin’ to you” in 2020, her total streams eclipsed 2 million and counting.
