Townsend Releases Genuine and Heart Wrenching New Single, "Stay"
Townsend released her latest single, “Stay” that’s the lead single to her upcoming EP dropping in November.
“Stay” is a hauntingly poignant musical narrative where the protagonist knows that the relationship has ended, yet she’s hoping her partner will change and stay. The staccato guitar rhythm and heartbreakingly beautiful and authentic vocals not only captivate the listener, but also adds an element of connection. Everyone has their own story of going the extra mile and someone close to us doesn’t reciprocate the same effort.
“This song was inspired by that moment in a relationship when you know it isn’t working. It describes a situation where you yearn for someone to stay and really show up in a relationship, but they always end up leaving or falling short. The song discusses leaving the lights on and leaving the bed just right, all in hopes for that person to show up as needed.”
Townsend graciously answered some of my questions about the single and her artist journey.
What word best describes your artist journey?
I would say “purposeful.”
Your upcoming single, “Stay” tells a great story I think many individuals have been in before. What’s a healthy way of coming to terms to an end of a relationship, even though we might want the other person to change?
Honestly, this is easier said than done. It can be tough when we have such strong feelings about the situation. However, we have to be willing to set healthy boundaries for ourselves and the other person involved as a relationship ends.
One of my favorite lyrics is “your warmth is what makes this house a home.” Who in your life gives you the feeling of home?
I have a very solid group of friends. Every time I am in their presence, I feel completely at home and at ease.
Music is my safe space, and I find it incredibly healing and cathartic even if I’m just consuming it. How does creating music help you emotionally and mentally?
It’s incredibly therapeutic to create music! Many of my songs just spill out in a matter of a few minutes. When this happens, and the song is completed, I instantly experience a feeling of euphoria.

Patreon is crucial for independent artists. This platform allows fans to do more than just stream a song or buy a CD. So many friends and loved ones want the opportunity to help support you, so Patreon helps make that possible.
What are you looking forward to most in your next “era” of music?
I want to use my platform not only for music but for my "You're Not Alone" project, which encourages acceptance, love, and the idea that we are not alone in our struggles! I cannot wait to see how many stories I get to hear, share, and use to help bring some light to the world.
